SYSTEM____BREACH

Security Analytics As Terminal Hack | 2023

SYSTEM_BREACH - a security dashboard built like a terminal intrusion

PROJECT/OVERVIEW

SYSTEM_BREACH is a security dashboard designed like a terminal hack sequence. We transformed boring security analytics into a digital thriller. Real-time threat data displayed through cyberpunk aesthetics. Made monitoring systems feel dangerous and exciting. Retention rate: 89% because users WANT to check their dashboards.

CHALLENGE

Security dashboards are overwhelming. Too much data. Too complex. Users avoiding their own monitoring tools. The challenge: make security monitoring engaging without trivializing threats. Create urgency through design, not just red alerts

SOLUTION

DISCOVERY & ANALYSIS

RESEARCH

Interviewed 40+ security professionals. Studied terminal aesthetics. Analyzed user behavior with existing dashboards. Found that engagement drops due to visual overwhelm, not complexity. Tested 8+ visualization approaches. Terminal metaphor won.

CONCEPT & ITERATION

DESIGN

Created 5 threat level visual themes. Designed custom monospace typography. Built color system based on terminal emulators. Every data point has cinematic presentation. Information hierarchy through intensity, not just size

DEVELOPMENT & TECH

BUILD

Vue.js for reactive data. D3.js for visualizations. WebSockets for real-time updates. Custom terminal emulator in Canvas. Built data aggregation layer. Optimized for displaying thousands of events without lag.

IMPACT & METRICS

RESULTS

Eighty-nine percent of trial users were still active after ninety days, against an industry benchmark of thirty-one. Mean time to acknowledge an alert dropped by forty percent, because the interface makes severity something you feel before you read it.
